One of my clients in Princeton has a teenage son who is an actor and needed his headshots done. She called me up, we met, and it was an absolutely gorgeous winter day. I mean it has been a highly unusual season with barely any snow. It was windy with a chill to the air, but the sun was out. We had chatted earlier about what he should wear, then we went to the Princeton University campus, which was not that far from their home. With kids, you don't want artificial lighting if at all possible. The only lighting you see is natural sun with a reflector to bring in the light to his face, that's it. I gave him direction on how to pose, so that I could get the best angles and we talked, joked around so that I could get natural expressions from him including some to see if he could be serious while still being himself. We did a variety of poses, headshots, and quarter length body.
Afterwards, his father joined us and I did a quick shot of the three of them, and of course some with just him and each of his parents. I believe in giving a little as a thank you.
He has a talent agent in NYC, so I'm hope that these worked out for him. Good luck and thank you!
